Emergency Surgery for Ares 12-02-2010 Share

After evaluating Ares' condition the decision was made to perform emergency eye surgery early morning on 12-02-2010. Ares could not see out of the one eye and only had about 10% vision in the other.

We were very concerned about the effects that sedation would have on him in his weakened state, but could not allow his eyes to deteriorate any further.

When Ares was confiscated from the appalling conditions of the circus, he had a severe eye infection and this resulted in a prolapse of the glands in the eyes. These swollen glands effectively covered his eyes and also resulted in further infection.

After being sedated, the glands were surgically removed and the affected area as well as his other injuries received treatment. The prognosis for him regaining his sight is good.
